You want the good news or the bad news first? Let’s start with bad news: These days, it seems like everyone’s got a food festival. We’re waiting for the “Pizza Restaurants Who Are Closed On Mondays And Serve Delicious Mushroom Ravioli Fest” to happen next. The good news: Not all of them are bad ideas, like the upcoming “Check, Please! Arizona“ Festival.

A food festival inspired by the show Check, Please! Arizona on Eight, Arizona PBS, the food at this fest will come from chefs who have been featured on the show. We know, it looks like we just put together a horrible sentence, but those are the real names of things.

It takes place at CityScape in downtown Phoenix on Sunday, April 28th, from 11am to 4pm.

Many of these restaurants never ever do festivals of any kind, so it’s a good chance to see them out and about. Some of the participants include: Tarbell’s, Tuck Shop, LON’s at the Hermosa, Haus Murphy’s German Restaurant, Vogue Bistro, MacAlpines, Pittsburgh Willy’s Gourmet Hot Dogs, Fuego Bistro, Coup Des Tartes, Petite Maison, Havana Café, Mrs. Whites Golden Rule Café, and at least a dozen more.

Check, Please! Arizona is hosted by James Beard Award-winning chef Robert McGrath, who interviews guests about their restaurant experiences. Focusing on independently owned spots that are often hidden gems, the show is now in its third season and has obviously featured some tasty places.

Also at the fest, you can audition to be a guest on Check, Please! Arizona! So dust off that head shot and practice your on-camera skills, producers will be on-site looking for their next made-for-TV food fanatic.

Tickets are $60 (VIP $100) and include wine and beer. Purchase at www.azpbs.org/checkplease.
