If you’re like us, then you: 1) obsess over where to go for lunch, 2) can’t wait for EATERAZ emails, 3) only watch the Superbowl for the commercials.

Because of the latter, it’s kinda tough to cook during the game. Guaranteed, the steaks will need flipping during whatever is planned here. And you probably want to find out what it is.

So sit back, relax, and wait for the next installment of the Geico surfer while gorging yourself on mouthwatering BBQ from Bobby Q Great Steaks & Real BBQ.

Their Superbowl Sunday Football Feast for Four comes with a half pound of 18-hour smoked beef-brisket, half pound of seasoned pulled pork, half slab of pecan smoked St. Louis ribs, half a juicy BBQ chicken straight off the rotisserie, four cornbreads and two sides for only $28!

There’s still time to order, so give them a call at 602-995-5982. Pickup at Bobby Q, 8501 N. 27th Ave. in Phoenix.

Yesterday, we wrote about SnöBar, the new cocktail-infused popsicle. SnoBar has signed on to sponsor the Surprise BBQ Festival, which means you can taste their cool treats on March 3rd with some great BBQ.

But news of SnöBar got us to thinkin’ – are there other 21-and-over products out there inspired by kid’s treats? A few. But the wackiest thing that came out of our research is this–a vending machine that scans your body and decides if you’re an adult responsible enough to handle eating pudding. Why? It’s a simple test of technology by Kraft Foods to see if vending machines can be active, participatory advertisers and decide who should get whatever it’s vending.

Check out the story here: http://www.physorg.com/news/2011-12-kraft-intel-technology-vending-machine.html

We see an eventual tie in with SnöBar here. Kid’s popsicles come out of one, non-alcoholic bin, and the adult popsicles (otherwise known as SnoBars) coming out of another. The vendor wouldn’t have to worry about IDs or untrustworthy kids hitting the wrong button because the machine decided who was who.

Oh machines, you’re so smart.

It’s Orwellian for sure, but it’s pretty cool and we bet it rolls out in our lifetime. There’s one in Chicago already, so let’s all go for pudding!

Love BBQ? Prove it.

Here’s an idea: take the smell of a BBQ Festival and smell like that all the time with this new fragrance by the people who don’t bring you any other fragrances, just a bunch of award-winning BBQ Sauces. Their cologne/perfume/room spray is called Que, Eau de Barbeque and it supposedly delivers “an intoxicating bouquet of spices, smoke, meat, and sweet summer sweat.”

Sounds downright bizarre. Everyone knows how that smell of a BBQ Fest doesn’t leave your clothes until a strong wash, well now there’s a way to keep that smell all the time if you so choose. And, it’d make the perfect gift for any ‘que lover. It’s $24.95 per bottle. Check it out here: www.porkbarrelbbq.com.

Five minutes. Twenty images. Your passion for food.

That’s all it would take to speak at the next Ignite Phoenix event–Ignite Food. Ignite is like the Republic’s Arizona Storytellers or TEDx in that essentially people with a microphone talk about something. The difference with Ignite Phoenix is the extremely short time frame and the high number of slides a speaker can show. With five minutes and 20 slides, that’s an average of one slide every 15 seconds. Got ADD? This is your thing. Some would say there’s no way you can get anything meaningful out of someone speaking for a nanosecond like this, but it sure makes for good fun.

Ignite Food is looking for speakers who want to talk about growing stuff to eat, eating stuff that grows, cooking, dining, drinking, blogging, serving, mixing, purveying, or simply admiring food. The event date is March 19 and it will take place at Stand Up Live at Cityscape in downtown Phoenix.

Here’s how to submit a presentation: go to www.ignitephoenix.com/foodsubmit and do whatever that says. It’s quick and easy. If you just want tickets, then sign up to receive updates at http://ignitephoenix.com – they’ll let ya know when tickets go on sale, and who among you decided to try their hand at the microphone/slide remote.

We can’t even begin to tell you how flattered we were to see us mentioned not once, not twice, but three times in the new “Food Lover’s Guide To Phoenix & Scottsdale: The Best Restaurants, Markets & Local Culinary Offerings.” It’s a book that’s part of the nationwide Food Lovers’ Series, meaning that most major cities across the US get this printed guide custom written by an author who knows their sh*t in that particular town.

In our case, it’s Katarina Kovacevic—former magazine editor (even back in the day for ITEM Magazine, a pub started by one of us EATERAZ boys). After magazine life, Kovacevic endured a stint with the Scottsdale Convention & Visitors Bureau, which certainly helped her learn the foodie landscape and meet the key players. So she’s been able to craft a guide that answers more than that usual lame question: “where should I go for dinner tonight.”

The book is not just restaurant a guide—it offers the reader a full 360-degree view of our food scene, from culinary events to top blogs to farmer’s markets to specialty shops to food trucks and more.

It’s tricky endeavor in any city because food scene characteristics change so rapidly. So naturally there’s a lot of new places that are absent, but strangely some things that are absent in real life yet included in the book. We’re wondering why Crave AZ is included, event though the website has shown a “cancelled” note since December 17, 2010. Is it because the Scottsdale CVB had a vested interest in making that event survive, so Kovacevic was urged to help keep the dream alive?

Dunno. But anyways, let’s get back to the good stuff—us!

She lists EATERAZ as a noteworthy food blog, and the Arizona Barbecue Festival and Arizona Taco Festival both as noteworthy events. About EATERAZ, perhaps no one has said it more on-point that Kovacevic: She said we’re “One part news, two parts satire…” She also called us “funny,” “on the ball,” “and a worthwhile resource,” all of which we can neither confirm nor deny, but we like it!

Of the Arizona Taco Festival, she says it, “shines a spotlight on what the southwest, particularly Arizona, is really known for—its unbeatable Mexican food.” Amen sister! And with both Tacos and the BBQ Fests, we’re simply honored to be listed in the company of Arizona Restaurant Week, My Nana’s Best Tasting Salsa Challenge, the Scottsdale Culinary Festival, Arizona Beer Week, and many other great events.

One thing we’re kinda bummed about is how many of the blogs listed as great resources have grown cyber cobwebs. We’re not saying this to put anyone down, but it makes us look like a town of lazies when MicheleLaudig.com is listed though her blog has sat dormant since August 11, 2011, when she last did a story about how ArizonaFoothillsMagazine.com was interested in what was in her purse. The Guide also lists EricEatsOut.com who declared his blog all but dead on November 16, 2011. Nikki Buchanan’s TheWildLavender.com hasn’t received a keystroke since May 21, 2011.

But are we here to dwell on the negative? Nope. We’re here to tell you to pick up a copy at Barnes & Noble or here on Amazon and give it a read. Even if you stumble on a something out of date, relish in gaining the full 360 on the local food scene—what was, what is, and what’s to come. (Sounds like more food trucks, that’s what!)

Remember when Spanish Fly opened up in downtown Scottsdale last year? It’s that thing with a pool that replaced Drift Tiki Lounge. At first, everyone was like, “shots!” And then everyone was like, “cannonball!” And then everyone was like, “I’ve gotta vomit!” But those people kept coming. (Some of them even in the pool … ew!)

The lines were so long and so constant, that it had the owners of Spanish Fly thinking one thing–we need to do another one. So another one people will, like, get. The old Jilly’s next to the Scottsdale Quarter is underway to become Spanish Fly part duex. Any tweaks? One we know for sure is that owners are looking to create a bar that happens to have a pool, not a pool that happens to have a bar.

Wait, wuh? See, they felt Spanish Fly too quickly became all about the pool and less about the cocktail quality or menu from talented chef and Stingray/Jimmy Woo’s co-creator Andrew Nam. Guess they quickly learned that by and large these people don’t really care. They’re digging up the Jilly’s parking lot and filling the big hole with water. No mater how the place is spun, though, the big hole will probably attract big crowds. Why? Because people love to do shots, then a cannonball, and then vomit, and then do it again.

Remember last Saturday night? You probably don’t because it was raining and you stayed in to drink a bunch of red wine. If you ordered in, you probably called up whatever pizza you always order when you order in. Well just like you’re always trying to expand your dining-out horizons, how about expanding your dining-in horizons?

GrubHub.com is a service that gathers all of the restaurants willing to deliver food to your door and presents them like a food court on your computer or mobile device. Just enter your address and the type of food you’re in the mood for, and you’ll be browsing menus in no-time, checking out places that serve a bunch more than pepperoni covered dough and cheese. Since many of the places don’t actively promote delivery, there’s often delivery charges in the ballpark of $3 to $5, which kindof stinks, but those prices should go down as more restaurants join up.

Since Phoenix generally sucks, our query for “Vietnamese” food yielded no results, but it did lead us to an overall list that included places we never knew were willing to deliver. Give it a try, and see if you can discover something about our city, all while sitting on your couch.

And how about this: GrubHub is hooking up the first 100 users over the next 12 days with $5 off their order. All you have to do is type the code “EATERAZ5″ in the code box and it’ll take five bucks off your tab. This code is good ’till midnight on the 19th, for first-time orders only, and only good in Phoenix.

Check out details here: www.grubhub.com/eateraz5.

Yesterday, we realized that we’re a little past due on some Huffington Post reading. Surfing around the site for new and interesting stuff, we came across this article, one that examines old and out-of-date stuff–like the milk in your fridge, or the peanut butter in your pantry (that should be refrigerated, you know). Read the article here: http://www.huffingtonpost.com.

The question is this: how many times have you opened up that milk that’s way past the expiration date only to find it’s perfectly fine? How many times has cheese sat in your fridge, with nary a growth spore of green, months after the use-by date on the label? You ate it … and lived. Sometimes those labels have a sell-by date, sometimes a use-by, and sometimes an old-fashioned expiration date. What gives? And who makes them?

The Huff Post article doesn’t examine why the dates always seem askew, it ties these incongruous dates to the mass amounts of food waste that comes out of grocery stores – even the beloved do-gooders at Trader Joe’s. They might be living peace signs, but they work for a place that throws away perfectly good yogurt. These dates are like religion to those of us who eat, so shouldn’t there be a clearer, more realistic system?

As usual on Huffington Post, it’s all the government’s fault. So help take a stand against the man – next time you see something expired on a grocery store shelf, buy it, eat it, and revel in your anti-establishmentness. We just hope you don’t get sick, because your health care plan probably sucks thanks to the government.

Last time we ordered a Domino’s pizza, two things occurred to us. 1) Man, this pizza sucks, and 2) Wish they woulda placed all the pepperoni in a funny smiley face shape. That’d've been cool.

Truth is, though, that a thin crust Domino’s pizza really isn’t all that bad. Stuff’s totally edible. And the other truth is, you CAN design your Domino’s pizza to look however you want now through the new Domino’s iPad app.

It’s called Domino’s Pizza Hero, and you can draw a smiley face, phallic symbol, peace sign, or whatever your little artisanal heart can imagine by drawing ingredients on the screen and then sending your order. You can slice the pie in different ways, rack up points for speed, and discover new and exciting ways to sit on your ass before that box of greasy calories arrives at your door.

Check it out here: http://dominospizzahero.com

At some point, you can keep your $%^&*ing discount service. Anybody who’s let a Groupon expire, or forgot to buy a Living Social, knows that saving money while dining out can be stressful.

So is a new one called Restauranteers the solution? Here’s the deal: you pay up front about $5-$8/month, then when you make a reservation through them, you’re guaranteed up to 30% off your total bill when you dine. Sounds like a sweet exchange, right?

Couple caveats: Restauranteers only has about 20 local restaurants in the database right now. So unless you want to eat at Christopher’s night after night after night, you might want to wait and see how the database grows. And although they keep touting “up to 50% off your bill,” most of our AZ spots are offering “up to 30% off.” The size of the discount is determined by the amount you spend, so it seems undefined and up to the restaurant, making us a little weary to buy in. If you’re a splitting-entree type, this type of deal might not be for you. However, if you want to roll the dice and hope your discounts tally enough to make it all worth it in the end, then go for it.

If you use OpenTable, it might be a good idea to keep hammering away at that point accumulation for actual defined amount gift certificates. If not, check out Restauranteers and give them a try. It could pay off, in a Groupon-LivingSocial-you-gotta-work-for-your-discounts kinda way.
