Last week, we mentioned that we’ve been putting pen to paper for a new magazine called AZ Golf Insider. That means that we’ve been dining in golf clubhouse restaurants quite a bit lately. What we’ve come to discover is that not only are most of these menus downright tailor made for EATERAZ (nachos, burgers, dogs, wings, etc.), but that there’s a whole circuit of people who love the plate as much as they love par – so the clubhouse restaurants often put on dinners that never get publicized to us miniature golf types.
For instance, this Friday, February 24, Wildhorse Grille at Talking Stick Golf Club (behind the casino), Chef Patrick Karvis has put together a wine pairing dinner with Chalone Vineyards–the folks who make some of the finest pinot and chard in Northern Cal.
Check out this menu:
A reception at 6:30pm with spicy tuna rolls, Deviled eggs and more.
Paired with Chalone’s Sauvignon Blanc
Mache salad with fennel olive oil and tomato tartar
Paired with 2009 Estate Chardonnay
Pan seared Ahi with polenta, mushroom duxelles, and smoked tomato
Paired with 2009 Estate Pinot Noir
Buffalo and mascarpone cheese ravioli with spaghetti squash and blueberry peppercorn sauce
Paired with 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon
Ending with a modern take on the banana split
Paired with Contempo Cellars “Cherry on Top”
Huh? Cherry on Top? Chalone, it turns out, is distributed by Alliance Beverage Distributing Company, and they’re sneaking one of their newest accounts into the dessert course of this dinner. Cherry on Top is an affordable sweet wine that is pleasantly surprising to even the most dry-wine-devoted drinker.
Dinner begins at 7pm and costs $65++ per person.
