A Shot To Your Gift Giving

Did you notice it this year? Everyone you gave yet another Starbucks gift card to gave you a look. Sure, they were happy to receive a couple lattes courtesy you, but deep down, they were thinking, “what a lazy A-hole, this gift is getting old and frankly lacks imagination.” So maybe starting now, you can forgo the gift of coffee credit and give someone the crema the crop, a pièce de résistance of the coffee world.

Most people looking to give a single-cup coffee maker will opt for the $99 Keurig you see in grocery stores everywhere. And that gift is great, if you like weak-ass coffee that tastes like it’s from a truck stop in Kansas. You’ll have to spend a little more for something nice, but the quality of what we’re about to recommend is light years better for the money spent.

Opt for the new Pixie by Nespresso. This machine weighs in at about six pounds, making it practically portable. Even though it’s the smallest machine in the Nespresso line-up, it packs a punch, lining every cup with a layer of crema that’s unparalleled. The Pixie also turns itself off by itself after nine minutes of inactivity. It also heats up and is ready to go in 25 seconds. What makes it a fun gift? (Besides the fact that it’s a perfect coffee-making machine.) It comes in six colors, helping you personalize your gift. You can throw in a package of varied pods to get giftee started, so they can choose their favorite and order those as they go.

Better to test the product before you gift one though. Pick one up for about $250 at Williams-Sonoma, Sur La Table, or online at Nespresso.com. Oh, we and also suggest un-friending anyone who uses the word “frankly” during inner-dialogue (see above). That’s almost as pretentious as believing a Starbucks giftcard still passes gift-giving muster.
