DEMARIA FLIPS OUT
The Dish,Videos
For writers, it’s sometimes really difficult to decide how to lead in with an article. Today is one of those days. The subject: an upcoming event—the Bud Light Fiesta going on at Scottsdale’s SouthBridge January 3-7. Do we take aim at the recent Augie Busch tragedy? (The former Anheuser-Busch CEO, whose model girlfriend was just found dead in his home). No, that’s mean and uncalled for. Or do we address Chef Michael DeMaria’s highly caffeinated interview style in the videos above? Game on!
DeMaria’s got a lot to be excited about—his M Culinary Concepts catering biz is in charge of all opps at the Fiesta, so you know the week-long party’s going to be tasty and fun. But even better, a group of his local chef friends are heading to the site for a Tailgate Party each day and serving food for $2 each (and if anybody knows that $2 food samples work, it’s us). DeMaria jumped around Scottsdale with PR guru Grant Crone armed with a Flip Video Camera and list of restaurants. They popped in to see James Porter, Pavle Milic, Eddie Matney, and a host of others, asking them about their $2 menu items. DeMaria’s fun on camera and he’s got tons of experience – he was one of the first local chefs to take up the video cam and use it for personal marketing. We remember his construction tours of his space in Centerpoint Condominiums. We remember him filming shipment arrivals and food prep tips in the kitchen of Heirloom when it opened. DeMaria knows that the way to market is by humanizing the story. So nice job, Chef.
Check out the videos by clicking the pic above. There’s about a dozen places signed on so far, and the plan is to have six chefs a day for the five-day gig. Check out the full menu here. Fiesta hours 11am-7pm on Mon-Tue, 11am-3pm Wed-Fri. Oh, and Augie? Totally innocent. Can’t wait for something on WikiLeaks tomorrow…
