YABBA DABBA DARE YA…

They say you learn something new every day. Well today, we learned what a giant animal tastes like. We headed out to Big Daddy’s BBQ for lunch, and as you can see, we slightly over-ordered for a party of three.

Thing is, we just saw on Channel 3 that Big Daddy’s recently unveiled a bunch of new menu items and we wanted to go for a test spin. But that kinda presents a problem. When we run into a menu of pulled pork, ribs, fried sides, chicken, etc., we can’t possibly pass up all of these staples in lieu of some new stuff, so we go big and get it all. The new things we tried: the Habañero smoked wings, a sausage link, and the single rib of some giant creature. Like a dinosaur or Kong or something.

On a hotness scale of 1-10, the wings were a solid 8. Maybe even 9. Luckily, heat didn’t overpower flavor, but it made eating everything else a little tricky. So we employed a trick taught to us by The Mission restaurant owner, Brian Raab—fill a couple sauce cups with ice cream from the dispenser over by the utensils, and you’ll clear that fire right up. And the link was great, definitely one of the smoothest in town.

But one item that’s almost Man vs. Food-worthy: the “Brontosaurus Beef Rib” – 1.5-pound rib eye on the bone and smoked until its soft like brisket and flavorful like, well, rib eye. Check it:

It was the surefire winner on the table and no trip to Big Daddy’s should be had without one.

Everything we ordered was good enough for return visits and sharing the place with friends. Competition BBQ teams have been known to frequent Big Daddy’s, and we can definitely see why. (It’s sort of like seeing a buncha chefs in a restaurant. Then you know it’s good.)
