A NEW SANDWICHADA
The Dish
You’ve got to hand it to the Taco Bell marketing team. They’ve been “thinking outside the bun” quite a lot lately. Think about it: Who else can take the same five ingredients and invent enticing new menu items that keep all of us coming back, and not just for lunch or dinner, but for that “fourth meal”—you know—the one between dinner and breakfast that Taco Bell also invented.
Behold, Taco Bell’s new Tortada. As far as we can tell, the name suggests that this is the TB-version of a sandwich, because it combines the Spanish word for sandwich, “torta,” with the suffix “ada,” which in real Spanish is generally added to nouns to turn them into adjectives. But in TB-Spanish, it apparently means “in a tortilla.”
The Tortada comes in Bacon Ranch or Salsa Roja and combines “diced ripe tomatoes,” “crisp, shredded lettuce,” “warm, flour tortillas,” “real cheddar cheese,” “and seasoned meat” to create a menu item worth the heartburn and regret. Speaking of combining, we’ve got a few suggestions for the marketing team:
Gordita combined with Nachos = Nachitas
Chalupas combined with a Quesadilla = Quesalupa
7-Layer Burrito combined with Cheesy Fiesta Potatoes = 7-Layer Cheesy Fiesta Potitos
