DEVOURING DEMARCO
The Dish,Videos
For as long as we can remember, West of Western has been one of our favorite culinary festivals. How can you beat the sculpture garden setting and first-event-out-of-the-culinary-festival-frenzy gate? But, WoW had some flaws—fatal, no; worth fixing, yes. The wine and cocktail tables were located inside while the food was outside, and the event lacked an overall identity.
And if anybody knows how to make wine front-and-center while instilling some sort of identity, it’s Craig DeMarco. One of the masterminds behind that eternally hip corner of 40th Street & Campbell and it’s Postino Wine Bar, DeMarco along with Kimber Lanning, who’s without question the most respected and action-focused instigator of progress in Phoenix, have fixed those problems.
They sought out a host of smaller, independent restaurants and moved the wine outside, while adding gallery-setting seminars by restaurant critics, authors, and wine/liquor experts.
Click the picture above for a video interview with DeMarco during Devoured. And stay tuned for another Devoured story this week—an interview with Tania Oseguera of Cazadores and Corzo tequilas!
