The Dish

The Valley’s six Green Bay Packers fans may have lamented the closing of their beloved den—Mabel Murphy’s bar at 7018 E. Main in Old Town—when it closed about a year ago. But so it goes, we’re in for something better. We stopped by the spot as it was under total renovation by Aaron May (OverEasy, The Lodge, and formerly Sol Y Sombra and Autostrada) who purchased the building from a sweet ‘ole lady that he’s managed to turn into a regular Lodge customer.

The transformation into Mabel’s on Main, a Mad Men-inspired bar where the Cutty Sark flows and the back door is preferred, is in full swing as you read this. May and crew have been scouring eBay and hitting closing restaurant fire sales for a lot of the design appointments, from repurposed maritime cage-encased lightbulbs to bathroom wallpaper inspired by The Pump Room in Chicago.

Watch the video below for a sneak peek of the space with May, where he reveals a targeted opening date, some hints about the menu, and some devil-eyed goat he found. For Part 1. of the full unedited version, click here, Part 2. is also on our EATERAZ TV Channel on YouTube.
