FARM AID
The Dish

We love a good pork chop, but admit that we don’t always know where the hell it came from. We’ll probably think twice about it after Friday, when the movie, Food Inc. opens at Harkins Camelview 5. Filmmaker Robert Kenner went deep into the nation’s food industry, seeking to publicize the highly mechanized underbelly that’s been hidden from the American consumer with the help of government agencies like the USDA and FDA. He exposes the methods that plump up chickens quick, make bionic soybeans, and keep mutant tomatoes fresh forever.
Now we all know that the big, bad corporation is, well, big and bad, but what if Kenner pulled a Michael Moore and edited clips in fishy ways to suit his one-sided message? Take a walk through the site of Kenner’s biggest adversary, Monsanto Corporation, and read their crafty response to his film: www.monsanto.com/foodinc/.
Is Monsanto all bad? Sure there’s evidence that they bully farmers to use their seed, but they also feed millions of people overseas while you’re busy paying a premium for organic. So see the film and decide for yourself.
