TAG, YOU’RE IT!
What's Cooking?

GRAFFITI REPORT—The taggers who did the defacing pictured above have no idea who they’re dealing with. No, he’s not going to take matters into his own hands and have them found and canned, he’s going to give them more room to work.
Chef and soon-to-be restaurant owner Aaron Chamberlin is remodeling a mid-century office building just east of Central on Camelback into a bright and airy neighborhood joint he hopes “will show people there’s something besides that Applebee’s across the street.” The restaurant will be called St. Francis Place (named after the surrounding neighborhood) and serve the kind of easy fare Chamberlin’s accustomed to—he’s the guy that developed a lot of that menu you enjoy today at La Grande Orange.
Anyway, one morning while knee deep in the demo with his architect, Wendell Burnette, Chamberlin found the building significantly tagged going up the main staircase. He’s decided to keep the painting (for now). “I love it,” he says. “This is urban! It adds character and, hey, you wouldn’t get this in North Scottsdale, would you?” Although Chamberlin will eventually have to paint over this particular piece, he plans to dedicate one of the back walls for taggers, letting them paint whatever they want whenever they want.
So apparently, at St. Francis Place, the rule will be: No Shirt, No Shoes, No Spray Can, No Service.
