Rumors have been flying around the last few months about the current status of a few much-hyped new restaurant openings by some very notable local chefs and owners.
Chef Aaron May was due to open Autostrada Osteria + Enoteca in north Scottsdale, and come last January or February, he was due to open Leche in Old Town Scottsdale, a Basque food-themed concept. This beckons the question — dónde estás?
Peter Kasperski of Cowboy Ciao, See Saw, Kazmierz and Digestif fame, was due to open Shell Shock and Mexican Standoff (now mockingly called Mexican Standstill.) These are nowhere to be found citing “construction and personnel issues.”
Then of course there is the much publicized road block for Beard award winning chef, Robert McGrath and his new mega-space, REM. He too has run out of money like many others. He also closed Pischke’s Blue Ribbon to open First Street Ice House, in downtown Scottsdale with Aaron May. That was due to open last July. Why Robert, why? Pishcke’s rocked!
McGrath and May, have also touted a concept at the DC Ranch Marketplace in the old San Felipe’s Cantina space.
Still waiting…
